Dole Food settles pesticide claims with 5,000 former banana plantation workers
Dole Food has agreed in principle to settle the pesticide claims of more than 5,000 former banana workers in South and Central America who are represented by US law firm Provost Umphrey.
Several law firms have brought suits against Dole and other companies claiming that their use of a pesticide on banana plantations during the 1970s and 1980s caused the workers to become sterile. The tentative settlement would resolve all of Provost Umphrey's suits involving banana workers in Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Honduras.
