El Salvador coffee growers urge financing

Only 15 to 20 percent of El Salvador's 19,000 coffee growers have been given credit by the country's banks.

Producers say they are currently unable to fulfil banks' requirements to access credit due to their current situation brought by drought and coffee rust.

"They ask for requirements we can't fulfil, and we need credit to be able to work the fields," said Sergio Ticas, president of the the country's coffee industry association.
