El Salvador energy sector gets ever cleaner
Monday, December 10, 2018
Clean energy, in the form of solar, wind and hydro power now accounts for 64 percent of all electricity generation in El Salvador.
In 2014, clean power represented half of the total, and now the government wants that the current proportion to be increased.
A natural gas plant that is being built in Acajutla by Energía del Pacífico will contrinute 380 megawatts by 2021, and the conclusion of the El Chaparral dam will add more in 2022. Meanwhile, Neoen, a French independent power producer, has been granted finance for a 140-megawatt solar project.
