El Salvador faces new international dispute by companies challenging policy on mines

Thursday, July 8, 2010

El Salvador faces another challenge its mining policy by international companies seeking redress under the World Bank’s Center for the Resolution of Investment Disputes.

Commerce Group and San Sebastian Gold Mines claim that El Salvador is failing to observe Cafta rules.

The two companies are claiming a total of $100 million because El Salvador’s government is alleged to have withdrawn a mining concession they were awarded in the 1980s.
