El Salvador housing deficit hits 58 percent

Monday, July 14, 2014

El Salvador's housing deficit is currently at 58 percent, according to the Inter-American Development Bank.

But 18 percent of the country's new homes are empty, a study by the bank revealed.

Among the main reasons are that many of the new homes are in unsafe areas, while the owners of many other homes prefer not to rent them due to long reposition processes in case tenants fail to pay their rent.
