El Salvador lags behind in micro-insurance
Thursday, August 1, 2013
El Salvador, along with most Central American countries, is lagging behind in the micro-insurance sector.
Of the country's 16 active insurance companies, only two offer micro-insurance policies, while official figures show 130 out of 100,000 Salvadorans have that type of policy.
In the region, the country leading the micro-insurance sector is Guatemala with 0.5 percent coverage, Nicaragua stands in third place with 0.2 percent and Panama 0.06 percent.
