El Salvador launches plan to teach youth about tax

Monday, November 11, 2013

Despite significant recent improvements in tax revenue performance, El Salvador's tax revenue represented only 15 percent of gross domestic product in fiscal year 2013, continuing to lag behind regional peers.

Focusing on future taxpayers, the ministry of finance launched an outreach campaign called "Expresate" to teach Salvadoran youth how taxes contribute to better communities.

This programme aims to inform Salvadorans aged 15 to 20 about the country's fiscal affairs and to teach tax compliance as a social responsibility and critical determinant of sustained economic growth.
