El Salvador launches transition to digital TV

State-owned Canal 10 will today be the first television company in El Salvador to provide a digital service for public service, regulator Siget announced.

"This change will mark a radical new stage for the industry and the private sector of our country," said Blanca Coto, head of Siget.

Two years ago the Salvadoran authorities adopted the Japanese digital TV system which has been adopted in Brazil and nearly all the rest of Latin America.
