El Salvador pays the highest pensions

Retired Salvadorians on average receive $599 a month, the highest pension in the region, according to “Present and future of social protection in Latin America and the Caribbean" of the International Labour Organization.

The second highest country is Costa Rica, where retirees earn $581 a month.

The highest pension in Latin America is paid in Argentina, with a monthly average of $1,487.

Bolivia is last at $213.

Nicaragua was not included in the study.

The study includes 18 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, using data up to 2015 (numbers indicate each country’s position in Latin America).
