El Salvador's murder rate slashed by 40 percent
Homicides in El Salvador dropped 40 percent during 2012, mainly due to a truce established last March between the country's mara gangs.
A high murder rate has always been a source of worry for Salvadoran business leaders, as it scares away possibilities of foreign investment.
According to the National Civil Police, last year there were 2,576 murders, compared to the 4,371 from 2011.
