El Salvador's special zones 'are not designed for China'

The law on special economic zones that is being debated in the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador is not tailor-made for China, said Economy minister Luz Estrella Rodríguez.

The minister rejected allegations that the law was aimed at providing a Chinese foothold in El Salvador. "That's not true at all," she said.

"There are Chinese businesses that are interested but there are plenty more from other countries."
