Emigrants pay $800 million a year in fees for their remittances back home to Central America

Sending remittances to Central America costs more than $800 million a year, according to the Inter-American Development Bank.

The figure is the sum of what Central Americans pay in transfer fees every year.

There is no regulation that establishes transfer fee limits.

In Los Angeles, sending $200 to Central America can cost from $5 up to $33.
