Expenses swamp Costa Rican government

The Costa Rican government is currently flooded with expenses which prevent it from investing in projects that would help develop the country, Costa Rican daily La República reported.

The allocation of funds to government institutions and debt payment are the two main areas where the government is spending most funds.

The country's financial deficit represents 4.5 percent of its gross domestic product, which authorities say is unsustainable in the long term.
