Experts: Costa Rica should modernize fiscal system

The Central American institute for fiscal studies, Icefi, recommended Costa Rica to handle its public spending more effectively and strategically, Costa Rican daily La República reported.

Costa Rica is one of the region's countries most at risk in the long term if the government fails to control its excessive spending.

"The country's debt due to spending accounts for 11 percent of the gross domestic product, the highest in Central America," said Icefi researcher Renato Vargas.
