First LNG tanker through new Canal to bring U.S. gas

Tuesday, July 19, 2016

The first liquefied natural gas tanker to travel through the newly expanded Panama Canal locks will be carrying U.S. gas, the Panama Canal Authority said.

Royal Dutch Shell’s Maran Gas Apollonia vessel is scheduled to pass through the canal linking the Atlantic and Pacific oceans on July 25 after loading LNG on the U.S. Gulf Coast. BP’s British Merchant LNG tanker is expected to become the second to pass through the canal the following day.
