Flood of cardamom imports to India was only a trickle

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

Cardamom imports from Guatemala to India are at a negligible level, the Indian Spices Board said on Monday.

Reports of cardamom being imported from Guatemala had led to cardamom prices rising by more than 10 per cent within a fortnight.

But sources at the Spice Board said that official records showed that the imports between August 2012 and February 15 were below 200 tonnes. “It is too negligible a quantity that it cannot make any impact on the prices," the source said.
