Foreign investment dips in Guatemala

Thursday, January 3, 2019

The latest figures on foreign direct investment in Guatemalan fall short of the official estimates.

The central bank has forecast that foreign investment would hit $1.21 billion in 2018, a shade higher than the $1.17 billion of 2017.

However, in 2018 through September, Guatemala received $760 million of foreign investment, some $103 million less than in the same period of the previous year.

Commerce is the sector that attracts most of the investors. Until the third quarter of last year, more than a third of all the foreign direct investment that arrived in the country was in the commerce sector.
