Free at last! Costa Rica makes big steps in telecoms

Monday, May 7, 2012

Access for Costa Ricans to computers, broadband Internet and mobile phones improved substantially after the country opened its telecommunications market.

Before the market opened, only 4 percent of Costa Rica's population had access to high-speed Internet connection. Two years later, the proportion has grown to 15 percent.

A similar growth has been achieved in other technologies, such as home computers. Mobile phone penetration has now reached 103 percent.
