Funes wants UN backing to fight gang crime

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

Salvadoran President Mauricio Funes will ask the international community for support to fight organized crime in Central America, during his speech on September 25 at the United Nations.

“During his speech, the president will discuss the regional security strategy that includes combating drug trafficking and organized crime in general,” said David Rivas, the secretary of communications for the presidency.

Rivas added that Funes considers that “states alone and acting independently, cannot effectively combat organized crime and they need international aid.”
