Gold takes over beef as Nicaragua's top export

Gold became Nicaragua's number one export last January, with sales of up to $40 million.

It displaces beef as the country's top export product, which last year generated $37 million, while coffee was sent to third place, with sales of $22.5 million.

Nicaragua's exports during the first month this year generated $215 million, a 5.4 percent growth compared to the same month last year, according to the country's exports authority, known as Cetrex.
