Grupo Pellas of Nicaragua acquires the Chabil Utzaj sugar mill in Guatemala

Grupo Pellas, the leading Nicaraguan consortium, acquired control of the Chabil Utzal sugar mill in Guatemala. The price was not disclosed.

The mill, in Alta Verapaz, was previously owned by the Widdman family.

The general manager of the mill said that Pellas took over control at the beginning of this month, but the management remains totally Guatemalan.
