Guatemala expands Port of Quetzal

The works to expand Guatemala's Quetzal port, on the Pacific coast, were inaugurated by government and private sector representatives.

The firm in charge of the project is Terminal de Contenedores Quetzal, a subsidiary of Spain's Terminal de Contendedores de Barcelona.

But during the inauguration event, workers from two of the port's unions protested against the deal between the government and Spanish firm's subsidiary, saying it will affect earnings for everyone involved, including pensioners, municipalities, staff and even the government itself.
