Guatemala gives six oil exploration licenses

The Government of Guatemala has given six oil exploration and exploitation licenses for six regions in the country.

The companies are France's Perenco, U.S. companies Island Oil Exploration and Greenfields Petroleum Guatemala, Panama's Gaiax Garden, Colombia's Trayectoria Oil and Gas and Russia's Zacapa Energy.

According to official data, foreign oil companies established in Guatemala generate some $125 million per year in royalties.
