Guatemala has Central America’s first trendy food hall

Food halls used to be part of the urban fabric in all the world’s great cities. Thankfully, those vibrant and colorful markets have come back in vogue of late—and in some places, you might not expect to find one.

Opened last summer, the lively and festive La Esquina—El Mercadito del Barrio (or, “the little neighborhood market on the corner”) is surely Guatemala City’s, if not all of Central America’s, first trendy food hall.
