Friday, January 18, 2013

The president of Guatemala, Otto Perez Molina, is preparing to submit a report on his first year as head of state.

He will start by presenting a simplified version next Sunday, at a public convention, after which he will officially report to the National Assembly.

Perez is expected to highlight progress in reducing poverty, and in the area of security, a major theme in the campaign, which led to his election in January 2012.

The event will in addition indicate the degree to which Perez’ claims to fulfill a promise to promote austerity in the public sector.

No cocktails will be served and no marimba music will play.
