Guatemala pulls out of trade talks with Canada over dispute on meat quotas

Tuesday, November 2, 2010

Canada’s refusal to improve its proposals on beef and pork quotas has provoked Guatemala’s representatives to walk out of trade talks.

Raúl Trejo Esquivel, Guatemala’s deputy trade minister, said the Canadians had shown no flexibility whatsoever.

Thus far, only Guatemala has withdrawn from the talks with Canada. The other participants are El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua.
