Guatemala sets target of $870 million for health tourism by within nine years

Guatemala medical tourism promoters reckon that the numbers of patients can be increased from 500 a year at present to 75,000 within nine years.

The aim is earnings of $870 million a year, up from $6 million last year. Francisco Galindo of the Herrera Llerandi Hospital, said that medical services are top class in Guatemala. Patients who have been trated there include ex-US president Jimmy Carter, the former French leader Jacques Chirac, and the late pope John Paul II.
