Honduran shrimp farmers aim for $200 million

Thursday, June 10, 2010

Honduran shrimp farmers are harvesting the first shipments of the season to Europe, with the aim of earning more than last year’s export target of $200 million.

The farmers are aiming for some 45 million pounds of shellfish.

Honduras supplies shrimp for all of Central America, though especially in El Salvador, but the top export market is Europe, followed by the United States and the rest of the world.
