Honduras consolidates regional leadership in coffee

Coffee growers in Honduras are predicting a production record of 8.2 quintales for the upcoming 2016-2017 harvest which begins in October.

That will mean a 9 percent increase over the current crop, says Miguel Pon of the exporters’ association, Adecafeh.

When world market prices were high, Honduras used to earn about $1.5 billion a year in coffee exports, and the nation is by far the leading producer of the Central American and Mexican producers.
