Honduras, the leading Central American coffee exporter has earned $1.1 billion in export earnings so far from this year's harvest, which is de to end at the end of next month.
Last harvest pulled in $1.3 billion, the though the volume of coffee sold was much higher, mainly because of a drop in prices. This year Honduras has been earning 13 percent less the previous harvest.
In addition, much of the coffee trade has been snarled in the Central American ports -- a problem underlined recently by such fruit exporters as Del Monte Fresh.
