Honduras is poorest

Honduras is the poorest Central American country, according to the World Bank.

One in five Hondurans lives in extreme poverty, followed by Guatemala with one in six.

Only one in 33 people lives in extreme poverty in Costa Rica, which has the best results in the region.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is the poorest nation on earth, at 70%, while no one in Qatar or Norway is poor.

Families who cannot meet basic needs and earn less than the equivalent of $1,25 a day, are considered “extremely poor” (figures refer to percentage of extreme poverty).
