Honduras perks up for coffee harvest of $1 billion

The 2010-2011 coffee harvest will generate $1 billion in export earnings for Honduras, thanks to high world prices.

“This is a big surprise. The previous crop came to 4.1 million quintals and it earned us $600 million,” said Mario Ordoñez of the Honduran coffee institute.

The current crop is expected to reach 5 quintals.
