Honduras raises the bar on sugar production

Honduras may produce 12 million quintals, or 552,000 metric tons of sugar, in 2013-2014.

However, producers need legal certainty to reach the target, said Carlos Melara, executive director of the Association of Sugar Producers of Honduras.

Despite the problem of land grabbing in the north of the country, manufacturers are optimistic that output in 2012-13 will increase by 1 million quintals to 11.3 million.
