Hondutel needs to be helped amid severe financial crisis but no signs of government rescue

Hondutel, the state telecommunications company of Honduras, faces a severe economic crisis that could necessitate a rescue by the government.

The problems began when the market in telecommunications was opened at the end of 2005. Previously, Hondutel was a monopoly.

Several attempts to rescue the company on the grounds that they would amount to privatization.
