Infrastructure poses challenge for Costa Rica tourism

Costa Rica's main tourism challenges for the coming years are to have better highways, attract more airlines and guarantee safety in popular tourism destinations, Costa Rican daily La República reported.

These challenges are essential, as other countries in the region, such as Panama and Nicaragua, have notably increased their tourism figures.

In order to keep up, the country's tourism authority has focused efforts on attracting different types of tourism to the country, reflected by the 2.3 million visitors the country received last year, compared to 1.2 million in 2012.
