Inmet aims to present environmental assessment for Cobre Panama next month

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

Canadian base-metals producer Inmet Mining plans to submit the environmental and social impact assessment for its big Cobre Panama copper project to local authorities before the end of next month.

The company had initially said it would submit the document in the second quarter, but translations from English into Spanish, as well as detailed reviews by experts on Panamanian regulations, had taken longer than expected.

The environmental review will likely take about 15 months, and Inmet does not expect that the delayed submission will have any negative implications for the broader project timetable.
