International Monetary Fund raises estimate of Cental American growth to 3.2 percent

The International Monetary Fund has raised its forecasts slightly for Central America this year. Growth for the region is now expected to reach 3.1 percent, up from a forecast in April of 2.7 percent.

Inflation, however, will remain much the same. Th,is year the Fund reckons it will be 3.9 percent, up from 3.4 percent in the April estimate, and 4.1 percent in 2011.

The current account deficit is forecast at 5.1 percent this year and 5.5 percent in 2011.
