Link between Panama and Costa Rica takes first step in regional power interconnection

Plans to unite the electricity markets of Central America took a step forward with the first stage of the link between Veladero in Panama and  Veladero in Costa Rica.

The System of Electrical Connection for the Nations of Central America (Siepac) aims to establish a gradual process.

By the middle of next year, the whole region is due to be interconnected.
