Mayaguez acquires Nicaraguan sugar company

Colombian sugar company Mayagüez acquired 60 percent of Nicaragua's Casur Sugar Holdings, owner of the Benjamín Zeledón factory.

The acquisition was based on Nicaragua's attractive investment opportunities as well as regional growth in the sugar and energy sector's, Mayagüez said through a statement.

During the 2013-2014 harvest, the Zeledón factory produced 1.54 million quintals of Nicaragua's 16.9 million total.
