Mexican car output and exports surge in April

Tuesday, May 15, 2012

Mexican car production and exports reached record levels in April, rising 27 percent compared to the same month last year.

About one in every 10 new cars sold in the United States during the first four months of the year was made in Mexico, according to the Mexican Automobile Industry Association.

Mexico auto exports to Brazil more than doubled during the first four months of the year to about 66,000 vehicles as buyers snapped up the relatively cheap imports compared to locally produced vehicles before the import tax kicks in.
