Mexican telecom industry grows 11.9 percent in quarter

Mexico's telecom industry grew 11.9 per cent in the first quarter of 2012 compared to the same period last year.

The growth was possible due to strong performance by the satellite TV, mobile telephony and long distance segments, the Federal Telecommunications Commission, Cofetel, said.

The telecom industry's growth was much more robust than that of the economy as a whole, which expanded by 4.6 per cent in the first quarter, Cofetel said in a statement.
