Mexico's $33 billion crushes remittances record

Thursday, January 3, 2019

Mexico will have received a record of more than $33 billion last year, according to Western Union.

The forecast is based on the 20 percent increase in November, when remittances came to $2.9 billion. It also is based on the fact that Mexican emigrants send more remittances in December than in any other month, except for that of Mothers' Day.

The remittances are the second most import generator of foreign exchange income for Mexico after only automobiles. Tourism is the third.
