Mexico's car industry sells unsafe vehicles at home

Safety measures in Mexican produced cars depend on the vehicle's destination.

Cars destined to stay in the country or South America carry a code meaning there is no need for antilock braking systems, electronic stability control or more than two airbags.

However, cars which are exported to the U.S. or Europe must meet strict safety laws.
