Mexico's shale revolution might have to wait

Thursday, September 27, 2018

The future of Mexico's first auction of blocks of "shale" oil and gas resources under the energy reform is in doubt because of a wave of kidnappings and murders in the northern stated of Tamaulipas.

Mexico has the same geology as the areas in the US that have launched a high profitable "shale revolution" that has made billionaires of producers there.

But Tamaulipas is immersed in a savage war between gangs of organized crime that smuggle drugs and people to the US. And now they are fighting over the illegal trade in fuel.
