Mexico's Sigma acquires Monteverde of Costa Rica

Mexico's Sigma Alimentos, specializing in dairy and processed meat products, acquired Costa Rica's Corporación Monteverde.

Monteverde is Costa Rica's leading cheese manufacturer, and sells the Monteverde and Lekkerland brands. It has three production plants in Costa Rica, and exports to Nicaragua, El Salvador and Panama.

Sigma Alimentos is part of Mexico's leading private sector group Grupo Alfa, which has businesses in petrochemicals, auto-parts, telecommunications and natural gas.
