Microfinance firms undeterred by 'El Nino'

Monday, June 9, 2014

Microfinance companies in Nicaragua expect to finance some $45 million in agricultural activities.

The country's microfinance association said the figure will be maintained despite the weather threat of'El Niño' to the country's agriculture.

"Each company will apply its own strategy to guarantee the recovery of its assets and lowering risks. They will do so by focusing on low-risk weather regions and in sectors that are more resistant to drought," said Julio Flores Coca, secretariat for the Nicaraguan Association of Microfinance Institutions.
