Mining is a backbone of Nicaraguan economy, says business leader

In 1994, mining amounted to only 0.6 percent of Nicaragua’s gross domestic product. Now that figure has risen to 3 percent, said José Adán Aguerri, president of the national private-sector association, Cosep.

Aguerri wsas speaking at the opening of Nicaragua’s international mining congress, which is underway today and tomorrow at Managua’s Crowne Plaza Hotel.
