Mississippi’s Gulfport is expanding in time for the widening of the Panama Canal

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

As the Mississippi Gulf Coast recovers from Hurricane Katrina, more than five and a half years later, the Port of Gulfport is growing in a big way.

The expansion is to get ready for when the widening of the Panama Canal is finished.

Gulfport is America's number two importer of green fruit. Gulfport is the third busiest container port in the Gulf of Mexico, behind Houston and New Orleans.
