More than one cellphone per person in Central America

Central America has reached a mobile phone penetration rate of 122 percent, meaning there is more than one cellphone for every person.

The number shows a 10 percent increase when compared to last year, Costa Rican newspaper La República reported.

Leading mobile penetration rates in the region is Panama, with 203 percent, while Nicaragua is at the bottom with 53 percent. However, due to its low rate, Nicaragua is the country with more opportunities for growth in the telecommunication sector.
