Nicaragua allows imports of duty-free beans for fears of food shortage

Monday, September 13, 2010

The government of Nicaragua authorized temporary free imports of beans to ensure supplies of the food staple amid fears of severe damage caused by rain.

Imports that far exceeded quotas were authorized by the government in order to meet market demands.

A ministerial decree indicates that no duties are to be imposed when “appropriate and reasonable” volumes are to be imported.
